The Client

  • Private academic medical integrated healthcare system
  • 30,000+ employees
  • 250+ locations
  • American’s Best Hospitals 2017 Top 25 by U.S. News & World Report
  • 100 Top Hospitals 2017 by Truven Health Analytics

The Challenge

The client committed to implement organization-wide disability awareness training but didn’t know where to start. They needed to:

  • Understand what employees should know about disabilities
  • Identify how to train all employees in the network and evaluate training effectiveness
  • Create compelling training content relevant to employees’ roles and experiences

The Solution

Exeter completed a comprehensive assessment of internal and external stakeholders through quantitative and qualitative data collection. This included analysis of patient feedback, satisfaction survey comments, patient and employee focus groups, and community partner interviews.

Findings informed the design of training strategy, training channels, evaluation approach, and content recommendations.

The Results

Exeter provided the client with a detailed, data-driven training strategy that included: recommended objectives, content, channels, audience, time allotments, resources, evaluation measures for trainings (annual, new hire, and new leader), as well as an intranet-based resource library for additional on-the-job training and team meetings.

Additionally, Exeter converted the qualitative findings derived from individual interviews and focus groups into 9 training videos to engage training participants.

Finally, Exeter provided a detailed report of actionable recommendations from patients, companions, and employees to improve disability-related services and better support patients and employees with disabilities.
